The bivouac guide
Bivouac is tolerated near the Refuge de la Flégère provided you respect the rules below:
Where and when to pitch your tent ?
You can only pitch your tent around the small artificial lake located 200m below the refuge.
The tent must be pitched after sunset and removed before sunrise.
Campfire
In order to respect the fauna and to avoid involuntary fire starts, campfires are strictly forbidden.
Stoves
For safety reasons, the use of stoves is forbidden within 200m of the refuge and the gondola. Please use them by the lake. As we cannot collect them for safety reasons, please bring your stoves back to town where they can be properly recycled.
Waste
We only collect correctly sorted waste (glass, cans, clean and incinerable plastics). However, we invite you to bring your stoves down to the valley. A few small garbage bags folded in a corner of your bag are always useful.
Weather
In the mountains, it is important to keep an eye on the weather conditions. We strongly recommend not to underestimate the risk of storms and not to wait until the last minute if you think it is better to sleep in a refuge or to go to the city for safety. Please don't take risks.
No need to reserve. Reservations are required for meals only.
You can take water from the tap, but as it is not controlled, we advise against drinking it as it is.
Therefore, think of taking micropure tablets and/or a filter to purify the water. For cooking, we recommend boiling water.
Yes, you can have dinner and breakfast at the refuge, but only by reservation. You can also order picnics for the next day.
These are to be paid for on arrival, or at the end of the dinner.
Please let us know of any food allergies or restrictions (e.g. vegetarian, don’t like cheese…) at the time of booking.
ATTENTION: we don’t do lunch. However, you can choose from 3 other restaurants on the Flégère estate (l’Adret, Tendance Foehn and Les 2 Aigles).
Let us know! 🙂 A simple phone call or an email is enough.
For bivouackers who have reserved dinner, it is mandatory to arrive before 6pm at the refuge. For the others, you can arrive at the time you wish at the camp site but no dinner will be served at the refuge.
No, bivouacers are not allowed to take showers at the refuge.
Access to showers is reserved for those sleeping in the refuge.
In bivouac, it is forbidden to leave your tent pitched for several days in a row, unlike camping. The tent must therefore be removed at sunrise.
It is not possible to rent sleeping bags or bivouac equipment at the refuge. We do not lend blankets either. Please take with you comforters and warm clothes as it is not uncommon for temperatures to drop below 0°C.
We are not equipped with groceries for the bivouac. That’s why we offer dinner and breakfast. We can also provide picnics to take away for the next day if needed.
The above are general guidelines. We invite you to always follow the instructions of the refuge managers first.
You are now ready for the adventure! 🙂
Don’t hesitate to contact us directly if you have any other questions.
